Joel Sprague a long-time member of the senior technical staff of TRI/Environmental, Austin, TX. specializing in research, development, and application of geosynthetics, plastic pipe, and erosion and sediment control technologies.

Mr. Sprague has authored numerous technical papers on his research. He is Chair of the Subcommittee on Geosynthetics in Erosion and Sediment Control in the ASTM D35 Committee on Geosynthetics. He is also actively involved in ASTM D18.25 Subcommittee on Erosion and Sediment Control. He is a registered professional engineer in North and South Carolina, and Georgia.

He received the Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award for his work on standards D 6461 and D 6462 on Silt Fence Materials and Installation, respectively. In 2003, he received the 2003 Award for Outstanding Article on the Practice of Geotechnical Testing for his paper titled, “Development of RECP Performance Test Methods” in ASTM’s Geotechnical Testing Journal. Also, Mr. Sprague was awarded IECA’s Most Distinguished Technical Paper Award 2007 for his paper titled “Slope Erosion Testing – Identifying “Critical” Parameters”. Recently, he was awarded the 2017 ASTM Award of Merit, ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to the development of standards, for his contributions for more than 20 years to Committee D35 on Geosynthetics.

James Sprague, TRI’s Field Lab Director provides operational management of TRI’s erosion and sediment control index and bench-scale testing efforts, and provides direction to site technicians on site operations and testing protocol.

Mr. Sprague has been integrally involved with implementing large-scale test methods, including the construction and maintenance of the state-of-the-art facilities that make TRI the only independent commercial laboratory offering such a wide array of performance testing capabilities.

Jarrett Nelson

Jarrett A Nelson, Geosynthetic Special Projects Manager

Jarrett Nelson serves as a Technical Director for TRI Environmental. Mr. Nelson manages many testing programs including: Conventional Creep/Stress Rupture, Stepped Isothermal (SIM), Installation Damage, Asphalt and Base Reinforcement and Chemical Durability. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin and more than 20 years of experience with geosynthetics materials, their unique qualities, and the laboratory and quality procedures necessary to assure their appropriate testing and evaluation. He is a member of ASTM and is involved in the development and implementation of new test procedures.
